The convergence of film and gaming industries.

The convergence.

Electronic Arts (EA games) contracted Steven Spielberg to a three-game deal. Spielberg would set up in the Los Angeles EA offices and make three original video games.

He had already been in the video game industry before this which was on was E.T The Extra-Terrestrial . This game was recorded as one of the worst games of video game history having no relation to the film itself in terms of narrative. The experience of the game was simply far from the experience of the film. The company ended up over stocking the cartridges and due to it being such a flop was left with a warehouse full of useless cartridges. The company contracted to getting the lot buried in the New Mexico desert.

This could be the reason why film adaptations of games are not as popular anymore as they used to be a very big risk for a big name director. The new abilities to create stunning visuals cutscenes and also gameplay along side the new technological advancements, big film directors or up and coming young ones may be tempted to make their way into this franchise and make a name from themselves within both of the mass media's and have the ability to create mass popularity through this.

More recently Steven Speilberg has now agreed to create an adaptation of the popular EA game franchise "Need for Speed".

Films are now commonly noted for having video game adaptations coming soon after or just before it is released. But most notably was the absence of "The Dark Knight video game". "Whatever held things up caused about $100 million in sales to be missed, according to estimates". Showing that film can also use gaming as a use of distribution and can also make a hefty chunk of money if done right.
