Analysis of Aliens

I have chosen a 5 minute clip from the film Aliens to analysis, the opening shot of the clip I used is a wide shot showing that where ever this film is based it is dark and has got a weird looking building with blue lightning shooting side by side across the building this shows it’s something that is scientific. The camera then starts to pan across to a unusual man this could mean that they want that the audience next to a to see him to fit in with the environment to be a scientist or to be something scientific, The mysterious man is putting wires into a blue lit box this could show that he is a repair man and he is there to help it then jumps shots to a over extreme wide shot over a space ship this could indicate to the audience it is a sci-fi film because you have a sight of the moon and a flying space craft in space this could immediate show the audience what genre the film is set in. Next there is a two shot of Ripley and newt this looks like a mother daughter moment even know these two aren’t blood related this makes the audience feel more sympathetic for them they feel closer to her because she is helping this little girl in distress. The camera then jumps to a point of view shot were a glass tube is rolling on the floor the glass tube could be used to indicate they are in some science labs and something they were experimenting on has escaped and this would indicate that it could be inhuman such as the alien and now the audience will feel worried for the defenceless Ripley and newt two woman having to defend themselves from the alien. As they notice there is a rolling glass tube in the floor the audience will automatically know that whatever it was in the glass tube Ripley and Newt don’t want them to be heard this is shown e because they were whispering. As the camera jumps straight on the alien jumping out at them out from nowhere it gives both women a shock due to the screaming under the bed the music gets more tense to make sure that the audience knows that they are both in danger. The room they are both in goes dark and this would show the audience that it is also a horror and it will jump out and scare you. After Ripley sets the fire alarm of two aliens come to try and plant a embryo inside them but on the shot when Newt is in a close up but to the right this would show her discomfort around these aliens she must be scared of them, As Ripley slides away from the alien it shows another point of view looking at it in her perspective were the alien is chasing her around the lab and wraps its tail around her throat this would show that it wants to overcome her and impregnate her. As the fire alarm goes off Hudson grabs a fire extinguisher to put out the fire but this shows that he isn’t aware of what as happened and this makes the audience realise he had nothing to do with locking both Ripley and Newt in the medical room this would make him look like the hero figure because he is coming to the rescue.
