Lighting is as essential to film making as actors and directors. In this lesson we look at the role light plays in setting mood and providing vital information about characters. 

Throughout Ridley Scott's Gladiator, Roman Emperor Commodus is surrounded by shadow and has his face is constantly split in to with light and shadow, highlighting his two faced personality and schizophrenic tendencies.
