explain how the opening sequence of La Haine contributes to the key themes of your chosen film

the opening sequence of La Haine is a montage of riot footage with Burnin and Lootin by Bob Marley playing throughout. Bob Marley is significant because he is known as a rebel and inspired a generation rise up against oppression and fight for change. some of the lyrics to the song also help us to understand the key themes in the film. the lyric "dressed in uniforms of brutality' is referring to the police, which shows us that the police are not seen as people who are there to maintain order, they are perceived as instigators of violence and that theyre uniform does not signify authority it instead signifies oppression and racism.
