Peter Shock Saving Private Ryan

Saving Private Ryan

Saving Private Ryan opens with a CU of everyone on the boat so allows us to see everyone’s emotions and that ranges from seasickness to praying for survival. Then it goes into CU of tam hank’s hands showing us he is extremely nervous and fearful as his hands are uncontrollably shaking but a part from that it shows he is trying to keep him self composed as he is officer in command and he must not let fear get the better of his judgement. When they hit the beach there is a wide shot but from the Enemy’s point of view of the boat and of how much is ease this is from them this is also represents by the high camera shot symbolising high power and an advantage to those who are on the ground. Throughout the scene there is a lot of hand held camera shots really putting the audience into the action and giving them the feeling that there environment is unsafe and not escapable. There where also many wide shots adding to this wider range of view and seeing all the death that is happening around and just how chaotic and how unprepared they actually where. Near the end of the scene you get a CU of tom hank’s face and that stay on him for a while and the camera is brought down to a slower rate and it just expresses how shocked and surprised e is and how he has lost all control.
