Recap Report
This is a recap report on
the quotes I have found from my research on animation. I have picked one quote
from each of my five articles to go into detail about as they are interesting
and relate to the topic I am studying.
The first quote I am going
to talk about is sourced from the BBC News archives and it was first published
in 2003. The article is about why Pixar has become so successful in the short
amount of time the studios have been active. One interesting quote from the
article reads “Pixar's reputation as
the Midas of animation looks in no danger of disappearing.” This shows how good
their films are because with every film up to the point of this article, every
film was very successful. It is saying that everything they touched turned to
gold. This comes from the word “Midas”. They have had great success from their
first film “Toy Story” (1995) and this was when animation changed from 2D
characters to CGI 3D characters. This then changed animation forever as every
studio then picked up the new technology as it was advancing in so many ways.
Also they have also beaten off other contenders like DreamWorks to become the
best animation studio. The reason for this is that they have had the very
successful “Toy Story” franchise and have had very strong stories and they were
the pioneers of the CGI technology used now in mostly every animation made
film.
My second quote is from the
guardian online website. The article focuses on why Pixar is an important
studio and how it has changed animation. The quote from the article reads: “How one studio has maintained such
incomparably high quality control remains intriguing.” This
tells us that everything out of the studio has been a success. The real success
of this studio was from the first use of CGI and the Toy Story film and
franchise. Also everyone likes an animated film as they are very family
friendly and children love them. They are good as every person can watch one of
them. They also add humour and they are really good stories and also a good way
of escapism for some people. Also the films are good for gags and their comedy.
The reviews they get for each film are also very good and the amount of quality
it has for a studio that only started out properly in 1995.
A third quote that I have
found is a quote on how Pixar put so much detail into their characters. The
article is from an online website called c net and goes into detail about the
stages Pixar go through in designing characters and the animation for them. The
quote reads: “For years, Pixar's animators, and their technical
counterparts, have looked for ways to push the envelope of what's
technologically possible in an animated film.” The quote is
saying that for every film Pixar create, the animators will push the boundaries
of every film and use the latest technology to produce them films. Since
Pixar’s first film Toy Story, you can see a difference in the way the films
have been made. The films have a lot more colour and a the characters and
environments look very real for example Sully off “Monsters Inc.” (2001), the
Pixar animators spent days working on the fur but now look at the film “Monsters
University” (2013), the animators have had to completely rewrite the programmes
on how they do the fur on him as technology has advanced in over a decade since
the first one was made. Also with the first “Toy Story” film, you can see
technological advances as if you compare it with the most recent film “Toy
Story 3” (2010), You can see better colours and more detail in the characters
as with the first film if you look at the t-shirts are still and have no
creases in. Even in “Finding Nemo” (2003), they had to make it look like real
water with the lighting and the bubbles and the swaying of the coral. Even in
the film “Up” (2009), they had to make the animation of over 300 balloons look
real.
