La Haine - Toilet scene

The toilet scene shows both the aggressive and defensive nature of both Hubert and Vinz, whilst also illustrating how Said has to sometimes work as a 'middle man' between the two.
Hubert and Vinz argue about Vinz' wish to 'kill a pig' if Abdel dies, before a man unexpectedly leaves one of the toilet cubicles and begins to talk to the trio.
He tells the three about an old friend, Grunwalski, who didn't like to go to the toilet in front of the other men on the train to a Siberian work camp. This background lets us know that both the man telling the story is likely a survivor of French-Vichy internment, and is therefore Jewish. Thus, his story could be seen to be aimed at Vinz, primarily, but applies to Said and Hubert too.
