How far can it be argued that your chosen
films provide a ‘realistic’ representation of the people and places they focus
on?
La Haine is a film based on the French’s
sub culture of the projects and immigrants. During the film the characters have
numerous relations to America and other areas this is escapism for the
characters because they know they will live better then they are doing in
France. When Said goes into Vinz room and you see what Vinz is dreaming about
he is dreaming about American break dancing this shows that they are dreaming
about it. He also has a Bob Marley poster on the wall this shows that they want
the feeling of free will, which they don’t have in France so it makes it big
that these singers have it and they sing about it. The Name of the Film Means
Hatred in English this could potentially show that this is what the film is
about. At the start of the film it feels like it is a Documentary this can help
show how the film is being realistic and that is showing what really did happen
in France to the projects. This can show
it is realistic because if it gives a documentary viewing to the audience then
they will be able to relate to this in France.
We
in England think its bad what happens to Vinz but in France it will be so much
worse because they relate to the story because Makone M’Bowle was a real
Project and during the interrogation scene when the police officer says to
Hubert “Should I put a bullet in your
neck” this relates to the incident to Makone M’Bowle because the police officer
was threatening him the same way the police officer was to Hubert and then the
gun fired by mistake and this was just on of he 300 deaths that happened to the
migrants within France this is the reason why they can relate to the incidence
in France. This would include Vinz and Abdel’s death because they are just two
projects out of the 300 who have died in the hands of the police and these are
not cared for because the police are anti police and this incidence can prove
this.
When the Media van turns up whilst they are
in the playground this can show how the media has made a stereotype out of the
projects because as soon as she pulled up she asks whether they were included
in the riots? And whilst she is asking them questions they film them this shows
how they try and get the work from projects, We get a POV of the camera man
filming the argument between the news woman and Vinz and it shows the part when
Vinz gets angry but not the part were he is arguing against his free will
saying e isn’t an animal. This shows how the media has impacted the French
society because this shows how they can manipulate how the projects act because
they know they annoy them. This shows a realistic view of the media because create
stereotypes.
