How is 1950's society similar to post 9/11 society
1950's society was similar to post 9/11 society because in both society had the constant fear of an outside threat, at the time of the 1950's America was going through the cold war with the USSR, similar todays society were the USA are at war in the middle east with the taliban. both society had a constant paranoia of the outsiders ideology, for example in the 1950's people feared communist infiltration and capitalists who owned media outlets and film production companies hired people to produce films which went against the ideology of communism and the media outlets advertised these to tap into the peoples fears. similar to todays society were film productions are now making films which go against the muslim extremist views and have a lot of themes of 9/11.
there was also a restriction of freedom and liberty in both society in the 1950 Mccarthy was a key politician in the fight against communism and when he question people if they were communist he took away there right to supply evidence before questing them, he also had the idea of if he would win 51% of the peoples opinions then the other 49% would be considered as wrong and unusual. whereas in todays society the patriots Act which was introduced after 9/11 allows the government to see your emails and listen to your phone calls and this goes against the liberty and freedoms that 'democracy' provides.
