Get Carter

Get Carter The film was originally inspired from a novel called Jacks Return Home and the screenplay was eventually based around the novel itself. Caine and Hodges tried to take inspiration from other crime related British films but also tried to make the film more gritty and realistic to relate to audiences more. Hodges also researched crime that was going on at the time and took inspiration to set the film in Newcastle from the one armed band murder. Get carter may have also took inspiration to set the film in Newcastle from the north and south divide in Britain and how traditionally the south may have had it better off than further north. Get Carter was the debut of director Mike Hodges.
