Treatment scene
During the treatment scene, how is the spectator punished?
During the treatment scene we are aligned with Alex and although he is a rapist and a murderer we still feel sorry for him because we see everything from his point of view. The film is less enjoyable when Alex is being punished because although he deserves the punishments for his crimes we should think it’s acceptable for this treatment to be done even though it is a punishment because he is a murderer and rapist, but we don’t we feel sorry for Alex because we have aligned with him. Kubrick uses a Point of view shot when watching the films of all the violence and sex because it’s shown to be a male’s perspective of the films. We the spectators are punished for aligning with Alex because we see what Alex sees and this isn’t right so we see Alex be punished and we feel sorry for him because we are aligned to him.
