Memento 1) I felt the end scene was very interesting as it was the first time we could make sense of the story itself and what the moral of the story was. We see Leonard pull back up to the bar where he is to meet Natalie which represents he start of the film where he tells himself he has to meet Natalie purely through what his notes tell him. Except this is the first time we see the story move in linear order as the story brings itself back to the start; in effect repeating the story again but also reinforcing the fact that is Leonard’s life which repeats itself every time he feels he has achieved his goal of killing the ‘so called’ John G. Therefore by seeing him pull up to the bar and then the film coming to a close represents that the story is a cycle, in which constantly repeats itself therefore we know Leonard will again repeat his actions of going after a ‘so called’ John G. 2) Quote – We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are. I feel this quote is a statement of the films narrative. 3) This quote is almost a statement to the narrative and how Leonard bases his decisions on what he sees when he wakes up to in effect remind him of who he is and what his goals are. The mirror reflects what he sees when he wakes up, such as the notes which include very few pictures but enough to guide him in the direction of where he is to find information to fulfil his day, also the mirror reflects what he sees. He sees his tattoos when he looks in the mirror which is basically how he reminds himself of all of his post incident memories therefore he has purpose (to kill John G) which is in effect what drives the narrative throughout the story. 4) Overall I feel this statement is reflected very well through various quotes from Leonard himself, I feel he constantly reinforces his condition through what he says yet we are not always aware what he means, however we an make sense of everything at he end of the film which overall concludes the film and makes sense of the moral of the story.
