Saving Private Ryan Analysis

In the first sequence the scene begins with with a medium close up of Tom Hanks the character of Captain Miller. He is central to the shot, this shows us that he is the main character and draws the attention to him. The camera then tracks backwards closely fitting a big group of soldiers standing before him. This tells us that Miller is nothing special, and is just another soldier like the others. Also is just in the same position as the other troops. As the camera is tracking backwards we see that some men are vomiting and the others have a horror look on their face, thinking of what is to come.
