Allegory

Steven Spielberg uses 9/11 as an allegory for his 2005 film 'War of the worlds'. Certain scenes used in this film are visual signifiers of the disaster which happened back in 2001, this is evidence of how disasters like this effet modern society and film.

Spielberg uses stereotypical ideologies of aliens in this film, their objective to exterminate humanity, overpowering the human race and how their appearance and language is different from ours, all of these traits are a connection to how society viewed terrorists at the time of the attack and also how they are still viewed today.

In war of the worlds there is a scene were Ray the protagonist leaves the basement he has been staying in with his children to find out that a plane has crashed into the house destroying it, the plane is iconography to 9/11.
