War Of The Worlds

The ‘War Of The Worlds’ novel was written by H. G. Wells in 1898 and on it’s release, people were paranoid about the end of the world and immigration and the appearance of literature reflected the increasing feeling of anxiety and insecurity as international tensions between European Imperial powers escalated towards the outbreak of the First World War. Across the decades the nationality of the invaders tended to vary, according to the most acutely perceived threat at the time. In the 1870s the Germans were the most common invaders. Towards the end of the nineteenth century, a period of strain on Anglo-French relations, and the signing of a treaty between France and Russia, the French became the more common menace.

War Of The Worlds became a huge part of cinema history. Then on the radio in 1938 War Of The Worlds returned with it’s own radio drama, read by Orson Welles, with the Nazi party already rising, America felt threatened and scared as most of them switched onto the radio drama half way through to hear Orson announce that New York was being invaded by aliens and they've moved from London and are spreading. Most Americans were selling their house and packing their stuff, yes, they were that gullible they believed they were being invaded, however they were fearing the annihilation from the increase of nuclear technology and the advancement of technology in those days.
