A clockwork orange

Why it was banned

The reason A Clockwork Orange was banned in the UK was actually because Stanley Kubrick decided to pull it from cinema's. This is because at first there was complaints by people saying that the film would damage the society by inspiring the teenagers of Britain into committing violence. Then throughout 1972 and 73 the police in Britain had been linking murders in Britain by teenagers to A Clockwork Orange. Just put simply teenagers that where committing violence said they had read A Clockwork Orange this was enough to cause an outrage in the public when teenagers where admitting to reading it. So 61 weeks after the movie had entered the cinema's Stanley Kubrick pulled the film from Cinema's because of all of the outrage throughout Britain the movie was only released back into cinema's in 1999 when Stanley Kubrick had died.

People's reaction

The public did not react to this very well because they caused outrage about the film and they thought that it would ruin the teenage society within the country and make them a lot more violent so they called for it to be released from the cinema's and eventually they got there way.

  Interesting fact

Filming the rape scene was so difficult for the actress originally cast in the role. She quit and the part was recast to Adrienne Corri, who was said to have been furious withStanley Kubrick for the scores of takes he required for this infamous scene, feeling it should have been done swiftly. Malcolm McDowell, however, has stated that Corri was very "game" about the brief but difficult role throughout filming.
