Our emotional response to a film is determined by how we are made to connect with characters.
How far is this been true for Full Metal Jacket.
I believe this is very true with Full Metal Jacket. This is because my emotional response was affected by the way in which I connected with characters. An example of this is how I connected with the group through empathy, I empathised with them due to knowing what it feels like to have someone like Pyle drag you down. Due to the fact that I empathised with the group this lead to me connect with them as empathy drives connection and sympathy drives disconnection. Even though I empathised with the group this does not mean that I saw the character of Pyle as a 'Threat', in fact I felt sympathy for him and this lead to me disconnecting with him and feeling an A central response towards his actions. This means that instead of thinking 'I know how horrible it feels to be outcasted' I thought 'I can imagine how it feels to feel outcasted. This then lead to me feeling a disconnection towards Pyle I don't fully know what he feels therefore I do not know the full intent of his actions towards the end of bootcamp.
