Land of the lost
Land of the lost was a film failure. It was thought to be a success as it was based on the hit television series Land of the lost. However, reviews show that the audience felt that the film was only loosely based on the original television series and this didn't work in the studios favour.
Many reviews state that the film is not child-friendly and should never have been made, while others think it is worth a watch just for Will Ferrell as the lead role. The overall reviews for this film were under 50% or rated less than 3/5 stars.
The budget for this film was $100 million and the box office figures were $69,548,641. The film and actors were nominated for many "worst" awards, this is shown below.
Award | Category | Nominee | Result |
---|---|---|---|
Golden Raspberry Award | Worst Actor | Will Ferrell | Nominated |
Worst Screen Couple | Nominated | ||
Any co-star, creature or "comic riff" | Nominated | ||
Worst Director | Brad Silberling | Nominated | |
Worst Picture | Universal Pictures | Nominated | |
Worst Screenplay | Dennis McNicholas and Chris Henchy | Nominated | |
Worst Supporting Actor | Jorma Taccone | Nominated | |
Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel | Won |
The genre's of the film were adventure, comedy and sci-fi, these contributed to the failure as the film wasn't as funny to many as it should have been. Having a main character like Will Ferrell, the audience would expect to have a laugh although many reviews mention no humour.
Film stars had a role in this film as Will Ferrell is a well known actor, especially for his humour which is a big part of why many people watched the film as some stated "Will Ferrell's and Danny McBride's natural charisma isn't sufficient to save Land of the Lost."
