The home invasion scene
In
this scene we are encouraged to align with Alex and his actions while at the
same time the male gaze used by Stanley Kubrick is used very effectively.
One
thing Stanley Kubrick does is show that the males actually controlled the scene
and this is shown right from the start. From the husband and this is because he
is doing something active and is writing a book to bring in the income while
the wife is reading someone else’s work by reading the paper. Also even the chairs within this scene play a
big role because the husband and is sitting on a chair that has no restraints
and he is free to move while the wife was sitting in an egg and looks like she
is enclosed within the egg then she is released via the husbands command. The
male gaze starts with the clothes that the wife is wearing and this is because
the clothes are red/orange which are able to connote danger, lust and desire.
Also the clothes hugs her body and are able to show of her bodily features to
the audience. Next when she goes to open the door she is surrounded by mirrors which
show her from lost of different angles and this means we are able to see all of
the features that she has within her.
