Vertigo opening scene

Vertigo opening sequence

Throughout the whole of this scene the psychoanalytical skills of Alfred Hitchcock are really shown of as he makes us think certain ways about Madeline right from the start. But also she is manipulated form the start and this is because of the voyerism that is bestowed on to her from the close-up to the cheek and then the extreme-closeup of the eyes and mouth. Also of this is done at a slow place and at such a tight framing and this is because it is to show that Madeline is trapped by us the audience and that she has no real choice but to be gazed at by the audience. Next the twitching of the mouth and eyes are very crucial to the opening sequence and this is because Hitchcock is trying to show that she is paranoid and mysterious. When then have the extreme close-up of the one eye Where it says in Alfred Hitchcock's and then the eye turns red as she has realised that all of her actions are being controlled by a man so the red is to signify he anger over this but also the audience's anger and this is because first reason that she has realised and is angry over this but also because she is mysterious and hard to figure out. Not only does the red signify this but it also signifies the danger that she is in and us and this is because she is danger to Scottie throughout the whole of the film putting him in situations he does not want to be in but also because she is leading herself to her death and she does not even realise it because she deceived Scottie so much.
