Doppelgängers in Vertigo

A Doppelgänger is defined as 'a ghostly double of a living person that haunts it's living counterpart'. Due to this, we can deduce that there are a variety of doppelgängers featured in Vertigo. Madeleine and Judy are obvious doppelgängers as they are mirror images of the same characters but it could be said that both Madeleine & Midge and Scottie & Gavin are doppelgängers of each other. It could be said that Madeleine & Midge are doppelgängers because they are the polar opposite of each other, Madeleine representing the vice and Midge representing the virtue. Madeleine is presented as a sex object whereas Midge is presented as a motherly figure to Scottie.
