The article 'Race, Gender and Sexuality' in Resident evil and Resident Evil 2 was created by stephen harper.The article comments o the fact that the narratives are closely linked to the video games and that they contain intertextuality with Lewis Carrolls' novels such as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

The article also suggests that the films are postmodern and postfeminist. This is because the texts 'combines representations of violent and confident femininity with problematic constructions of race, gender and sexuality'. This is shown through the directors and the way the film has been made;

  • films 'trade on sexually alluring images of their female leads'
  • 'I just love those gratuitous nudity scenes' said with irony from the leading star, suggesting that she has morals and is not comfortable with this requirement but does it anyway because thats how women are represented in film. Connotes that women are all goos in their roles when they are objectified.
  • The character 'Rain' shows progressive gender stereotypes as she is treated as 'one of the guys'. She is seen as a masculine character within her work, being an engineer and her clothing within the mise-en-scene. Although the actor goes on to be postfeminism by defending her character in an interview and saying  ''men just like to see women as sexy, whether they’re strong or weak, and my characters appeal to certain types of men", I believe that she is wrong and because of her roles within other films, the actor has been chosen to play this role due to her real life experiences such as being a 'strong woman' and maybe even because of sexuality. Also, her character role was designed for a male actor.
