The Book Thief is based on a novel by Markus Zusak called The Book Thief. The film is set during the the time of the Nazi Regime led by Adolf Hitler and is directed by Brian Percival
The main character, Liesel Meminger (Sophie Nélisse) is sent to a foster home after her brothers death and remains in the care of her foster parents Hans and Rosa Hubermann (Geoffrey Rush , Emily Watson) who teach her to read and write , where she then goes off to discover and steal many books. The Hubermann's also risk hiding a Jewish refugee from German officers in their basement.
Although the film does follow the same lines as the book a lot of the book does not appear in the film. This however is not a negative as it helps the film flow better whereas if it included most of the book the film would perhaps be too long.
Near enough all of the music in the film is instrumental. This helps the audience focus more on the scenes, and also builds suspense for certain scenes.
The lightening is not as dull as would be expected bearing in mind the context of the film. This makes the audience view the film in a positive way.
There are many camera angles in the film , such as point of view , high/low angle and wide shots . The use of these camera angles allows the audience to see different sides to the characters.
Although this film was a great adaptation and starred many talented actors and actresses ,the rating I would give The Book Thief would be 3.5 stars out of 5 .
