Amadeus - 'marriage of Fegro'
This scene begins with Salieri discussing Mozart's music and how it effects an audience that listens to it. As Salieri talks he is consumed by the darkness and shadow which reflects his envy and jealousy. During this scene it plays a lot on features of God, sinning and heaven which gives it a large religious impact, the fact he is consumed by shadow connotes the fact that jealousy is one of the seven deadly sins and gives the idea that Mozart is like a God and he is envious of that. The scene firstly shows Salieri when he is older and he is thinking back to when he was younger and inferior, the camera is fixed so all attention is on him as he is telling his piece of the story. In this shot Salieri seems to have failed in his life, this is signified through his clothing as he seems to be wearing rags that have worn away over time and during his flash back we see a young wealthy man that is doing good for himself.
The camera then cuts to when he was young and viewing the opera as we see a low angle shot of hi in the vip box and the low key lighting that casts many shadows and the darkness surrounds him.
When the audience are viewing the stage they are mesmerised, engaged and open minded showing that Mozart had really captured their attention whereas Salieri views it from a vip box which isolates him form everyone else and due to the fact he is looking down at the performers and not up at them like the rest of the audience it gives a visual signifier that he is a very cynical man. In addition to this the view he has of the performers is very narrow giving the impression his is close minded and because he is alone the camera pans towards him fitting him in a very claustrophobic frame.
