Rooftop Scene

When we first see the rooftop scene we realise that there are multiple generations and ethnicities present. This suggests that they are united through an adopted surrogate culture. We later see Said talking to a group about the American film 'Lethal Weapon' and a desert eagle hand gun which is associate with America, this backs up the point that they have all united in joining a different culture due to being rejected from their own. Shortly after we see a distinct contrast between Paris and the projects as vinz and others shout abuse from the rooftop towards the police. This leads to the projects facing prejudice as a result, suggesting that the projects live up to peoples expectations and the stereotype that has been given to them.

Later on in the scene the police arrive on the rooftop instigating the conflict and confronting the people from the projects. At this point in the film, we learn of the different environments and see a distinct contrast between Paris and the projects and how people are treated. The fact that the police come onto the rooftop in the first place, suggests that they view people from different communities and ethnicities with suspicion. Although the police intimate the argument and conflict, the power remains with the citizens and this s also shown when Vinz makes a skits and makes a joke of a police mans jacket calling it feminine, to which the police man does nothing but glare at him.
