Box Office Figures
are falling why do you think this is
In
2014 the US box office attendance hit it lowest point since 1995. This is
because we see that only a couple of franchise film where debuted in 2014,
which is why even though in 2014 we see a big drop in cinema attendance we
where told in that in 2015 we would see a rise in cinema attendance. This is
mainly because in 2015 we see that all of the biggest franchise released film
in that year, big film such as star wars, Jurassic world and fast and furious.
But even though many of the well known franchise did release films in 2015 that
wasn’t the only reason why we saw a rise in audience attendance, we also saw
popular reboots such as Mad Max make return to the screen. We can also factor
in the role that the international audience played in the rise of cinema
attendance in 2015. Many films such as the likes of transformers grabbed the
attention of the international audience by shooting part of the film in different
countries such as china. By doing this they are creating a surrounding that the
audience can relate to and grab their attention, it was also predicted that
China would be the source of the biggest increase in marketing in 2017.
Another
reason why we are seeing box office figures fall is because many people are
find different ways to view film, this is because there has been a advance in
technology which means that people can now have a cinematic experience in their
own home. Along with the expensiveness of going to a cinema, this has resulted in
one of the causes for the decline in box office attendants. Along with is there
is now a wide choice of how we can view film for example we know have Netflix’s
where the audience have a wide choice of film that they can view anywhere and
one any type of device.
In
2014 though we did see a fall n box office attendants that is to be expected.
This is because franchise mainly operates on a two-year cycles which means that
they will only release a film from that franchise every two years. Although as we have seen in 2015 there where
a rise in franchise getting released, as we see the releases of franchise such
as marvel and star war we can now assume that franchise films have become
universal with a variety of characters which means we can see the release of a
franchise film every year rather then every two years.
We
can also see that piracy has also contributed to the fall in box office
attendants. Though piracy is one of the reasons why we see a fall at the box
office the studios can also be blamed.
Despite the studios having tried to stop piracy the studios are still
finding it increasingly difficult to stop piracy from effect how much films
make at the box office. It is also estimated that piracy and illegal downloads
cost the US industry $20 billion per year.
we
have also seen a rise in the use of websites in order to make profits out of
films. Website such as YouTube and Kickstarter offers up and coming filmmakers
the chance to store, distribute and exhibit their work to a global audience for
free. In 2015 YouTube
