Get Carter - Anna

In Get Carter we see the Britt Ekland, aka Anna, depicted having passive phone sex with Jack. Throughout this scene Anna is denoted rolling around on her bed,  sexually and seductivley for it only to be for the audiences pleasure. Anna is in London, Jack is in Newcastle giving direct orders to Anna over the phone for her passively obey them. She is instantly passive at the sound of Jacks voice. Due to the two characters being in two different locations in the scene, the sexual nature is there to pleasure the audience as the it is for the audiences eyes only. Furthermore this can be linked to Laura Mulvey's (1975) theory of Visual Pleasure and the Narrative cinema were the films intention is for the eyes of a heterosexual male as the females role in the film is to be an erotic object and we instantly see that Anna is being romanticised sexually and fetishised in this scene. Her purpose is to serve sex to Jack and sexual behaviour to draw n a male audience to the film. She is shown in a way to appeal to a heterosexual male audience. If she then does spark interest to this target audience then it is safe to assume that they agree with the representation of women and hold these ideologies or are sympathetic to them, that women are just erotic objects in films, in their personal lives.

The swinging sixties saw a revolution for women started to gain equality through there release of the contraceptive pill. This  meant that women had freedom and choice in what they wanted to do with their bodies. This allowed them to no longer have the fear of pregnancy, therefore being able to sleep and have sexual relations with as many men as they liked with freedom of fear. However, Get Carter gives the sixties such a contrast, as it shows women back in really old, demeaning domestic roles - making the audience ask the contextual issue of "why are we not seeing these women as the strong, independent people society now knows they are?" It shows an ideology that the white men of Britain of the time upheld.
