Get Carter – Women: Male Gaze (driving scene with Glenda)

In this scene, there is fast paced music playing over a montage of Jack looking at and having sex with Glenda. The cut in shots of her in the car are of images highly packed with innuendo (such as using the gearstick and using the accelerator roughly). These shots are all point of view from Jack so we see that the director is conveying her as an object of Jack’s desire. From the shots in the car, there is no dialogue to imply that they were going to have sex, only close ups of Jack’s face as he looks down on parts of Glenda’s body, so by cutting sharply to shots of her getting undressed and them having sex in her house shows the audience that what Jack wants Jack will get. As a man, he is able to fulfil his desires regarding women easily rather than with any hard work due to the natural hierarchy portrayed in the film regarding gender.
