How is 1950’s Society Similar to Post 9/11 Society?

Todays post 9/11 societies is similar to that of 1950’s America in many ways. The first similarity is that both freedoms and liberties of the people have been stripped away in contradiction to American ideologies, today with the Patriots Act and back then with unfair trails with unsubstantial evidence. Both societies had a fear of outside threats from ‘them’ (terrorists and the USSR) and so the countries laws became stricter.

Another similarity of both societies is the paranoia that swept the nation. With paranoia in place from the outside threats senators took it upon themselves to utilise this fear to take control. McCarthy back in the 10950’s restricted the freedom on his people in the same way the Patriots Act does. The outside threats to both societies seemed to want to annihilate their opponents and start a new society with different ideologies.
