Post 9/11 Film - Lilo And Stitch

Lilo And Stitch is a story of a little creature created by genetic experimentation and bound to prison with his evil creator. Stitch escapes and heads for Earth where he tries to impersonate a dog and gets adopted by little Lilo, whom, bent on self preservation, he plans to use as a human shield to protect him for the aliens sent to recapture him. But without a greater purpose in life, no friends, family or memories, Stitch does a little soul searching and begins to understand the meanings of "love" and "family" and his feeling for Lilo begin to change.

Towards the end of Lilo And Stitch, Lilo is kidnapped and Stitch, Nani, Jumba and Plekely originally jumped into Jumba's spaceship and flew up and off to chase her. However, originally they 'borrowed' a plane from the airport and had a chase scene commence through a city, causing damages to a few buildings in the process. The producers and directors immediately noticed that they could no longer keep this scene a part of the film as they did not want to remind the children or the adults of any relatives or close relations whom they lost from the 9/11 attack. So instead of a jumbo jet being the vehicle, it was replaced by Jumba's spaceship and in replacement of the city landscape it is now a range of mountains and hills.

"You know, September 11th happened. We were on east coast time, and within a couple of hours, we realized we had to make a change in the film. There was no meeting - It wasn't even a conversation in some ways - it was just sort of obvious, out of respect, that this part of the film needed to change, but we still needed a rescue. And so, the directors and myself went into a room and tried to figure out how we were going to make this change and be very smart about it, because we're at the very end of our production process." - Clark Spencer (Producer)
