The scene from Amadeus starts of with Salieri describing Mozart's music. Salieri is wearing make up that presents him as being older and is the visual signifier of him having a flash back of this important moment in his life. The scene cuts to a low angle shot of Salieri in a box above the audience. Salieri is surrounded by darkness which connotes that he is consumed by envy this is considered wrong in christianity as they don't believe that people should be jealous of each other ,but it also connotes that he has a dark side to him.
The shot then cuts to a low angle ,point of view of the stage. Salieri's point of view for the stage is negative as it is presented as being quite small and cramped with dim lighting. Salieri's point of view of the stage highlights how close minded , ignorant and negative he is. However ,when we view the stage as it cuts to a point of view of the audience, we get multiple close ups of the the actors and actresses on the stage, which makes the stage look bigger. The stage is also presented in high key lighting as are the audience. The lighting connotes enlightenment as well as the audiences costumes as they are all in white. Salieri quotes that 'God was singing through this little man.'The men who are against Mozart's success are all dressed in darker colours such as black and red. This connotes the darkness and evil personality of them.
The shot of the stage cuts to a low angle, medium close up of Mozart. In the frame Mozart has one candle on each side of him. The use of the candles make Mozart appear godlike, but also give the illusion that he is giving a sermon.
The shot of the stage then cuts to a tracking shot, close up of Salieri. The camera gradually moves closer to his face, this shot reflects Salieri's realisation that Mozart has composed a brilliant piece of music and is going to be known for a while because of it and the the close up highlights how is becoming a nobody because of this.
The shot cuts to a medium close up of the Emperor and his men when he yawns which is a diegetic sound. The shot cuts back to Salieri in a medium close up, this distance of the camera from Salieri and his body language after realising the Emperor has yawned is positive and shows his hope for Mozart's failure.
