Cinematography

Cinematography refers to all things relating to the camera. This includes:

Camera angles
Shot types
Framing
Camera movement
Lighting
Focus

As film students we must realise that the camera is more than a tool that captures images, but is in fact a story telling device in it's own right. The type of shot used, or the way in which a camera moves can dramatically impact on how we view and respond to certain scenes and characters.

The lessons and resources below will enable you to analyse the camera and how it is used to create meaning in films
