Noel Gallagher Album Review

Album Review: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

Release date: October 17 2011

Producer: Noel Gallagher and David Sardy

Label: Sour Mash

Rating: 4/5

Overall I was impressed by the album, alot of the choruses on the song start early, this grabs the listener and hooks them in. The first song 'Everybody's on the run' starts with people talking and coughing, it suddenly comes to life with a drum fill giving it a theatrical feel with violins. This is a very strong first song, it gives a strong template for the rest of the album.

'Dream On' starts with a dark guitar riff with powerful drum beats, it sounds similar to the song 'The Importance Of Being Idle' by Oasis. Noel's sound has not really changed since Oasis.

'If I Had A Gun' starts in a similar way to Ryan Adams' cover of Wonderwall. This song reminds us of how we fell in love with Noel Gallagher. This song has another powerful drum beat along with the first two songs on the album suggesting that Noel is trying to make a signature sound for his album.

'The Death Of You And Me' the intro hooks us in with a western feel. Noel Gallagher uses a exaggerated 'Sunshine' in this song which reminds me heavily of Oasis songs 'Rock 'n' Roll Star' and 'Ciggarettes and Alcohol'

'(I Wanna Live In A Dream In My) Record Machine' Starts with the crys and laughter of school children, Noel starts singing playing which prehaps is bringing him back to his childhood. The theatrical feel comes back with big bass and strings.

'Aka... What A Life' starts with a high pitch ring, this is very piano driven similar to Coldplay or Robbie Williams.

Overall I think this is a very good album with lots of Oasis refferences and appeals to a lot of people with the musical aspects.
