Anti heroes research

Why we love the Anti-hero:

Example 1 iron man:
Tony Stark is probably not what you’d call a classic “hero”. He’s rich and very egotistical who enjoys a life of self-indulgent luxury, but who also chooses to live by a moral code, which is one that says he (Ironman) will fight injustice and for those who are being unfairly treated. That heroic code makes his personal character flaws a lot less offensive.

They don’t play by the rules, they can be total self-absorbed but somewhere underneath their prickly persona, they tend to stand for something that makes sense to us, whether or not they do it legally or ethically. They also have the wittiest lines and are true under-dogs who have a backstory that explains the reason why they are like they are.

Example 2 Jack Sparrow:
A more brilliantly inept pirate never sailed the sea! It’s in his rather clumsy narcissism that we see a vein of goodness running through his mercenary character. We actually cheer when those who are upholding the law, fail! We want nothing more than to help Jack, escape! Being a pirate isn’t supposed to be a honourable profession. Jack Sparrow definitely has tweaked that belief in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Example 3 Bruce Wayne:
While he’s a crime fighter, he’s also a ridiculously rich industrialist. His fortune obviously entitles him to live above the law, because even as a crime fighter, he frequently doesn’t stay within its boundary. but he lives by a moral code that we agree with, and he fights for justice in an unjust and cruel world.

They walk the fine line between right and wrong. There is moral ambiguity about everything they do whether they save the world or simply doing what they like.

Unlike heroes, they have no sense of mission. They do not feel called upon to do great things. They are not extraordinary in any particular way. They are not lost scions of noble and old families, nor are they endowed with any special powers, or extra abilities, except perhaps sharp reflexes and keen instinct of self-preservation. And although they mostly tend to be loners, they often have a soft spot, which they hide beneath gruff manners or dry-wit.

Regardless of their colour or creed, they all have one thing in common - they have a strong sense of not belonging. Deeply flawed and haunted by their excesses, they slog their way through the world they mistrust, or dislike, or can't understand.
They have crossed the line that separates them from the law-abiding citizen. They court death, and tragedy and destruction follow on their heels. It is dangerous to know them, and yet when the going gets tough it is always good to have them on your side.
They are resourceful. No one is better at escaping from maximum security prisons or breaking into restricted government compounds or handling guns or flying a spaceship than these guys.
They will also do things no hero would ever dream of doing. Cheat, lie, steal, punch below the belt and even put their tail between their legs and call it quits.
