The Male Gaze- Vertigo
Laura Mulvey’s male gaze is seen as everything
is revolved around the males in films this would be such thing like how a woman
will look and how the audience and the character view them. A scene in vertigo
indicates on how this is seen when Scottie and Madeline see each other in the
bar everywhere is red this could indicate love and passion and the view we get
is a POV of how Scottie would see Madeline she is the only one in the pub who
is not wearing anything on her shoulders she is showing bear skin and this is
not seen by anyone else in the restaurant, this would indicate that she is the
main importance and this is what the men want to see her standing out of the
crowd in her green dress this could indicate jealousy because she is nice
looking. “Women essentially hold two
roles within the film: as an erotic object for the characters in the film, and
as an erotic object for the spectator in the auditorium” This is how the
men will see the women in this scene.
When Scottie follows Madeline in the Cemetery
You get loads of POV’s from Scotties point of view this would also show
Madeline as being the “Active” and Scottie being the “passive” this goes
against The male gaze because it is usually The opposite way round.
Well written and uses good use of different camera angles e.g P.O.V but needs more detail and reference to quote/s
