Voyeurism scene analysis

In the scene in which Scottie and Madeleine see each other for the first time, the camera initially pans to where Madeleine is seated from Scotties point of view. The camera goes directly onto Madeleine, as if she is attracting the camera shot from Scotties point of view, attracting him and therefore us too.
This links into Mulveys theory of the male gaze theory in which she states there are two ways in which Hollywood cinema produces pleasure. The first involves the objectification of the image, and the second one the identification with it. Both mechanisms represent the mental desires of the male subject, of both the audience and the characters within the film.

  1. Good link from Mulvey's theory to the film.

Could use a quote from the essay to back your points rather than just say what it is.

    Fabulous.
