ALIEN
In
the vent scene in the film Alien, the Lighting used is very effective for its
duty, to create tension for the big scare. The character Dallas is searching for
the mysterious lost Alien in the vents. This scene is particularly scary and
creates tension in a number of ways.
The
sound used is basic and sometimes completely silent, but throughout the scene
there is the tracking sensor beeping noise which resembles a heartbeat this
creates a mysterious atmosphere.
The
lighting used in this scene is great; it provides little detail about the vent surroundings
while adding to the realistic effect. For the majority of the scene, Low Key
lighting is used and Dallas is holding it – the flame of a flamethrower. As he
is moving towards the camera in the clip, the light source is following him, leaving
the foreground and background to be in complete darkness, this tied with the
fact there is a missing killer alien on the loose creates intense tension.
