Donnie Darko Film review

Donnie Darko(Jake Gyllenhaal) doesn't get along too well with his family, his
teachers and his classmates; but he does manage to find a sympathetic friend in Gretchen(Jena Malone), who agrees to date him. He has a compassionate psychiatrist, who discovers hypnosis is the means to unlock hidden secrets. His other companion may not be a true ally. Donnie has a friend named Frank(James Duval) - a large bunny which only Donnie can see. When an engine falls off a plane and destroys his bedroom, Donnie is not there. Both the event, and Donnie's escape, seem to have been caused by supernatural events. Donnie's mental illness, if such it is, may never allow him to find out for sure.

There are many good actors in this film such as  Billy Bob Thornton and Seth Rogan who both play Teenage bullies who have nothing better to do than intimadate Donnie and he goes about his school. One scene imparticular is very gripping, when Billy's character pulls a knife on Donnie whilst he's washing his hands in the school toilets, in this scene the audience will truley fear for Donnie as he is frightened that much that he begins to cry.

My overall opinion on the film is that overall it is a very gripping and an interesting thriller that makes the audience think in order to understand the movie, however the story can get complicated at times and may take multiple watches to fully understand. Also the addition of Donnie's Imaginary friend "Frank" adds alot of mystery and suspence to the film as throughout the film he randomy turns up as Donnie is sleep walking and teaches Donnie about his supernatural powers witch in its self is very interesting.

The only real criticism I have with the film is that at times it can be very boring for the audience at times were no key plot points or events are being discussed and also that the overall storyline is quite hard to follow when elements such as; time travel, alternate universes and supernatural beings and powers are being thrown into the mix. However despite this I would rate Donnie darko a 9 out of 10 definately a must watch.

  1. You have followed the guide well but there are a few areas missing, such as full conclusion. Please also ensure that you are accurate with your work as Billy Bob Thornton does not play the character mentioned.

Overall this is a sound review and your personal response is stated. You have done well to find criticisms of the film.
