Gladiator
Analysis
In the
film, ‘Gladiator’ the director uses low key lighting to create and enhance the
suspense and tension in the scene. Throughout the scene, Commodus always has a
slight shadow across his face which suggests that he has a dark side to him. We
first see Commodus looking over a boy sleeping, because of the low key lighting
it looks threatening and dramatic. The boy who is sleeping is more in the light
than Commodus, which connotes purity and innocence. Commodus is surrounded by
shadow and corrupts everyone around him, this suggests that he is evil and has
dark intentions.
