As a way of showing alignment, we follow the group of the
core in the film “Full Metal Jacket” instead of a single character or
protagonist. However in the film there is one character that can cause a bit of
alignment at first, Private Pyle, but as the film advances we learn to align instead
with the group and instead see Pyle as an outcast or threat to the group. As we
align with the group, we come to dislike the character of Pyle. Pyle slowly
becomes isolated from the group, for example during the training scenes there
is one scene in which the entire core is running through a runway of mud and
Pyle falls, and as we see the group from a wide shot we see the expressions of the
faces of the group, either laughing at him as he is different to them or
disgusted or angry as Pyle does not fit into the group and is a threat to the
synchronization and unity they have.
