A Clockwork Orange

In the home invasion scene were Alex attacks and rapes a woman the first thing that we notice is the fact that every single action of the woman is dictated by a man. She is told to open the door and when she does not want to she is forced to by her husband. She is easily overpowered and her only purpose in the scene is to be used as a sexual object. Also as she is answering the door, the hallway is full of mirrors which forces us to see her from every angle and almost examine her entire body. Throughout the entire sequence we are never given a the woman's POV and are always forced to gaze upon her because she is almost always on screen.

The fact we are never given her POV suggests that she is not important but moreover it suggests that she is not really the victim. The fact we see her husbands POV staring up at her being assaulted suggests that he is in fact the victim of this attack and that she is purely a tool that Alex is using in order to punish her husband, but the fact she is being sexually assaulted is irrelevant because to Alex she is nothing more than something that can be used or to do things too rather than an actual human. We as a spectator are forced to be part of this attack because she is purely there for not just Alex to look at but also for us to look at. By denying her  POV Kubrick is denying us a chance to experience being a victim of a sexual assault but instead gives us the experience of almost taking part in one.
