This article makes the point that women are generally represented as damsels in distress and often fall accustom to the 'Dumb Blonde' stereotype due to them typically making stupid decisions that result in them (or people they know) getting killed.

This can be seen in Tatum's death scene in "Scream" in which she tried to crawl through the cat flap and consequently gets killed due to her stupid actions.

This article talks about how women are represented as weak and naive and also how films influenced from 1920's horror films often involve an stereotypical damsel in distress or weak female figure who is subsequently saved by a make hero figure.
