The Godfather

As the sequence begins we see the characters sat down in a restaurant. The camera positions the main character as looking very nervous and afraid. The noise shows his emotions and reflects his mood and how he feels before the killing. The train effect is a signifier as to what is to come. The use of contrasting sound also reflects his emotions, the silence within the shots does not give a sense of direction as to what is going to happen, making the viewer feel uncomfortable. During the shot in the bathroom, the director drowns most of the sound so it's just the main character and his thoughts; this creates more tension. Every noise you hear in the film is almost over exaggerated, being louder than it actually should be.
The use of Italian language makes us feel excluded from the characters and their conversations, the director has done this to show that there is a hidden secret.
