What role does the media play in La Haine?


The media in La Haine play a very negative and antagonising role. This is due to them constantly twisting and changing the truth. We see them attempt to do so in the scene where the trio are sat in a park talking when a news van pulls up and tries to interview them. In this scene the trio are shot from a high angle which connotes that the media and news reports are above them merely due to there social class and jobs. The most important shot in this scene is where we see Vinz shot from a p.o.v from one of the reporters cameras. He acts very aggressive towards the news team as they are assuming that the trio where involved in the riots. This is very important because it reinforces how the media can twist the truth and that all news is mediated to help improve the reputation of the state.
