The role of the media in la Haine is an insight to the rejection and the demonization that goes on in reality. The scene in the film where the trio are sitting in a playground, casually chatting then a TV reporter turns up and starts interrogating the trio, causing a response. The camera films vinz only when he is angry and shows the aggressive and argumentative side to him, despite a few seconds before the TV crew start asking them questions about the riots the previous day which is obviously going to cause aggro. The media are constantly reinforcing the positioning of the youth as a threat and dehumanising them. The setting of this scene makes them look like a zoo or safari park, just like Hubert mentions when he says, “This isn’t the thoiry”. The environment looks dangerous and unforgiving and the way that the TV crew are position behind the bars and looked at from a low angle makes them look like they’re being protected for their own good
