"No single piece of media is a true representation of society, every piece of media has been mediated to show someones opinion, view or ideologies." This is prominent in La Haine. The scene where the trio are in the playing area and the media turn up for a story represents this well.
Firstly, the news crew have a car, which we established is power. They turn up to look at the three as if they are on safari or in a safari park. The railings on the park make it look as if it is an enclosure, and the media are there to look at the animals and film them. The railings also create the ever present divide between the project dwellers and everyone else in France.
When we get the POV of the cameraman it basically shows us what the people of France will see on the news that evening. A young group of boys, one arabic and one black, shouting at the camera and insulting, and then one of the trio throwing a stone. It is possible that they will only show the stone throw and cut away, further stigmatising the projects to the rest of France. When Vinz asks who the woman was, he is showing he has no clue who the news reporter was, which means he doesn't watch the news. This is most likely because he knows that he and the rest of the projects population is misrepresented in the media to the rest of France.
