'Man Of Steel'

The scenes showing Zod’s army invading Metropolis and people running for their lives amidst chaos and destruction in the city’s streets - refers back to 9/11 & show the real impact it had on people.

Justin Chang; Chief Film Critic - "It gives off a sense of realism and soulfulness , although others could disagree." 

The small planes hitting the skyscrapers - refers back to all the US planes hitting one building after another, causing them to collapse & resulting in fires and other surrounding structures being damaged.

Also the ash & rubble surrounding the city, refers back to the reality of 9/11 itself, the nightmare that it had been for so many people. ^ People struggling to breathe & being stuck underneath of the rubble.
