How is the experience of shock created in your chosen extract?

The extract I have chosen is the rape scene from Mysterious Skin. I chose this because it is very aggressive and terrifying. Even though there are never any sexually explicit shots, the audience are forced to watch Neil's (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) reaction through close-ups and extreme close-ups of his face. Because of this we feel extreme sympathy for him and are scared for his wellbeing. The scene, like the whole film, is very realistic and depicts the gritty life of being a prostitute. The mans abruptness throughout the whole scene is very scary and we feel afraid for Neil's wellbeing.

The man is continuously shot through low angles from Neil's POV to make him look dominate and when he does look at Neil he is shot from a high angle to make him look weak.
