Tom Hiddleston
Construct
Tom's image is constructed to be the posh, British heart-throb. This is shown through the likes of the Jaguar Advert. The Jaguar Company has portrayed themselves to be rich and quality. Their company is popular worldwide and comes across as high standard so that fact that Tom Hiddleston features in the avert shows that he is also quality and of a high standard, he's not just a casual, hardworking actor, he's something more.Whether in an advert, talk-show or interview, he is constantly clothed in big, designer branded suits giving the impression that he is sophisticated, intelligent and high-class. Although Tom is known for playing bad guy 'Loki' in the 'Thor' films, his work outside of the films shows that he is a humble, down-to-earth guy. We works with a different number of charities such as Friendship woks and UNICEF UK, this has helped to construct him as the evil antagonist on screen and the caring, selfless protagonist off screen. Also, he always managers to make time for fans whether it be on the red carpet or in the street, portraying that he isn't one of those stuck up celebrity film stars and that he is laid back and caring.
Deviant
Although Tom has a busy, sophisticated life and the pressure can build up, he has only ever deviated when on-screen playing antagonist 'Loki'. This is how his image of a 'British heart-throb' and 'humble and carefree' persona is kept intact. His image is an intelligent, sophisticated role model so him doing things such as drugs or walking out of nightclubs half drunk would deviate from this, so he makes sure that this never happens to keep this image constructed.
Cultural Value
Tom sets an image to his fans through the use of social media. He is constantly using it to try to make a change throughout the world. For example, he is always tweeting and sharing links about charities and how we can help make a change, and he also promotes helping the environment. This sets an example to all his fans and followers and makes him more likeable as a person.
Capital Value
In films of today, I think that films stars aren't as important as they used to be and that many films will still succeed without them. Although there are still the odd few film stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio that make films worth while and attract audiences, I believe that film stars are dying out and that audiences are now attracted to films for the characters so big, famous 'film stars' are invalid. However, the few films stars that do bring things to the studio attract a mass of audience.
