Opening Sequence
The scene open with a red screen before cutting to a blue screen and then finally returning to a red colour. these bold and vibrant colours can reflect the vibrant and bold topics and themes of the film. an example of this is that the red/blue/red can show how alex has two personalities, the red being the rapist and violent man and the blue representing alex as the cured and socially respected man. the way in which the red becomes blue before returning to red can show the passage of time in the film as alex is cured before returning to his dark urges.
Driving Scene
The continued use of eye contact and ECU of Alex makes us as the spectator align with him over any other character. We only see the POV of Alex meaning that we experience and understand the world via alex. he is our guide. we don't see the POV of the victims which also strengthens our allegiance with Alex. Compared to the other droogs Alex is shown to be in charge and controlled where as the droogs are represented as simple, chaotic and uncontrolled. the narration also strengthens our allegiance with Alex because he explains the world and their motivation.
Rape Scene
This scene continues the separation of Alex and the violence through the masks and 'uniform' of the droogs. Empathy for male character as we see the attack from his pov. We are never given the pov of the female victim, only the POV of the rapist. this denies the chance for us the chance to see Alex as a rapist (from a females point of view). When alex says "Viddy Well" he is saying it to the spectator. the spectator is then denied the experience of the sexual assault. we do not lose the alignment as the is protecting us from the rape and associating him with us. we also get a pov of the old man, seeing via his eyes yet we still align.
Interrogation Scene
in this scene the only POV we get is Alex's. this encourages us to give our allegiance to him. Lots of CUs are used. these make Alex seem more childlike, using high angle shots which belittle him and encourages us to view him as weak and vulnerable. The police and headmaster are shot from a low angle and POV, showing them to stand over and dominate the space. This encourages us to view Alex as a victim. The fact that Alex is abused by those in power and people who should protect us may cause an A-central response in us as we know how it feels to be surrounded by older people and told off.
